A Treemendous Project

A few months ago Scott got an idea in his head. He decided to build the girls a treehouse.

Now when Scott gets an idea in his head he can't think of anything else.

First he asked me how high he should build it. I said 5 feet high would be good.

Does that look like 5 feet to you?

After Scott put up the foundation, he built the house part in our garage. It made itself at home there for several weeks. Have I mentioned that he has never done anything like this before? The other guy in the photo is Scott's faithful assistant, Sam.

Now it is time for the assembly.

The last wall goes up. This the part when Sam and Scott try to commit suicide. We all closed our eyes. Ultimately they had to enlist the help of a neighbor.

The construction of the stairs. This is the tree house's best feature, in my opinion. This way, if the kids fall, they will only fall six feet at a time instead of twelve. This was our compromise since Scott ignored my height limit.
On this day Scott had Donovan and Sam, and work progressed faster.

The finished product! Can you believe it? The girls promptly named it THE MERMAID TREEHOUSE which absolutely does not make sense, but that is its name.

Now who wants to come and play?

  1. Chels, this is too cool for school! What a perfect beginning to a long summer! I can think of a lot of things to happen up there in the treehouse, and with a name like the mermaid treehouse, there are some definite directions you could go with decorating... I'm already envisioning shells and sand... I'll keep my eyes peeled on my PTA thrift store runs, and my next outing to the beach...

  4. How very cool! Mark always wanted a tree house, and now wants to build one whenever we get a house. He will have to call your awesome hubby for tips when that time comes :-)

  5. Now you should paint "The Mermaid Treehouse" on it so that none may dispute its name.

  8. You built a treehouse for my birthday? You shouldn't have! It totally looks like a mermaids treehouse and I know my kids would love to come and play. Where do you live so I can plan a golf vacation for Bryce and I will come visit you?

  10. Wow! It looks great. It's high enough so you can teach them to rappel off the side!

  11. The original plan called for a zip line from the tree house to our back door to help the girls strengthen their arms. Somebody vetoed that idea . . . .

  13. Seriously cool tree house. I am not surprised coming from Scott. Now when this little boy is born you will have to install a net to catch him every time he jumps from the balcony! I had no idea you were expecting but I was starting to wonder if I would hear news soon. I am so happy for you! When are you due???? How are you feeling?
