The Man From Snowy River

Here is my favorite part of my favorite movie of all time. My brother Seth showed this to me when I was about 8 years old and we just kept rewinding this section over and over again. (I don't think I saw the rest of the movie until I was 20.)
Because this movie has a special place in my heart I decided to show it to my three girls. They were mezmorized. And, of course, in no time they were galloping around the house, whinnying. Since then we have watched "the horsey show" about a hundred times.
For those of you who aren't familiar with this show, it is an Australian western about a mountain boy who yearns to prove himself and so he single handedly captures a band of wild horses (and in the process goes down a very steep cliff) and thus becomes the MAN from Snowy River.

By the way, this movie is based on a poem by Banjo Paterson. Here's the link if you're curious.

  1. One of my show pieces on the piano was "Jessica's Theme". And sadly I have never actually seen the movie all of the way through.

How I wish that I could ride like that.

  4. Chelsea, cousin. I haven't thought about or seen this movie for years!!! It was a classic in our house growing up. Probably the Australian ties. Someone in my family also memorized the theme song on the piano as well (probably Kelly since Julia and I never really showed as much talent). Anyway, I am glad to have found your blog. I had a nice chat with your mom at my parent's 50th last weekend and she told me your twins are in Kindergarten !!! Holy Cow time flies! I just think of them as babies. Not long after you had them, I asked your mom how you were doing and she said, "Well, she's doing pretty well...she walks around with her top off most of the time though!". Time gets frozen when you live out of touch. Sounds like you guys are doing well. If you're interested you can check out some semi-recent photos of our little family at www.sofarbehind.blogspot.com.

  5. Like Candice I don't think I have seen the movie all the way through. The type of non-cartoon shows my kids like are Mary Poppins and Swiss Family Robinson. They love to dance with the first and think the pirate parts are hilarious. I'll have to check out the horsey show.

  6. One of Matt's and my favorite movies. Every time I came to a drop off while riding last week, that scene came to me (I would fall and kill myself). My favorite scene is in the follow up movie -- the obsticle course with the whip.
